Get the Commuter Rate: If you have more than a few hours to kill before the game, you can save a bunch of money by parking early in the Southfield Commuter Lot. Parking in this lot costs only $5 if you arrive early enough to get the commuter rate. From the Met’s site: For weekday games starting at 12 noon, the $5.00 rate will be in effect until 8AM. For weekday games starting at 1:10PM the $5.00 rate will be in effect until 9AM. For weekday night games the $5.00 rate will be in effect until 12 noon. After the $5.00 rate expires at the respective time for each game the Citi Field event rate will be in effect.
When to arrive: The parking becomes available three hours prior to any event. Each lot runs on a first-come, first-served basis, so the earlier a driver is, the closer they will be to the stadium.
Avoid the Traffic: If possible, take the Long Island Expressway to exit 22E onto College Point Boulevard rather than the Whitestone Expressway or Grand Central Parkway. If coming from Manhattan, avoid the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge or the Midtown Tunnel. If coming from Brooklyn, avoid the Eastbound Belt Parkway. The Waze App is always handy for avoiding traffic and street closures.
