Just near the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C., RFK Stadium is home to D.C. United of Major League Soccer (MLS) and also frequently hosts the U.S.A.’s men’s national soccer team. Since opening over 50 years ago, RFK Stadium was the longtime home of the NFL’s Washington Redskins (1961 – 1996) before the team moved to nearby FedEx Field. It also hosted the MLB’s (American League) Washington Senators from 1962 to 1971 until the team moved west and became the Texas Rangers. HANDICAP PARKING
At RFK Stadium, all parking lots include disabled/handicapped parking spots in the front rows closest to the stadium, which are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lot 5 is a private lot commonly used for dropping-off and picking-up disabled guests to and from the stadium. For more information, call (202)-587-5430.
TAILGATING AT RFK STADIUM
- Tailgating is allowed in Lot 8 only at a price of $30. All lots are monitored for violations of this rule.
- Use of two or more parking spots for tailgating will result in the attendee/s being charged for two parking spaces.
- Tailgating vehicles may not obstruct driving lanes.
- Trash must be disposed of in the proper receptacles.
- For a tent larger than 20’x20′, a tenting permit is required by the District of Columbia.
Due to the District Department of Transportation’s 11th Street Bridge Project, access to and from RFK Stadium from I-395 via the Southeast/Southwest freeway has been re-routed. However, access from DC-295 and other points remains unaffected.
From Union Station: Go east from Union Station along Massachusetts Ave. Continue past Stanton Square to Lincoln Park (at 12th Street). Go around Lincoln Park to East Capitol Street and turn right onto it. Follow East Capitol Street to RFK Stadium.
From I-66 and Constitution Ave: Follow Constitution Ave east past the Capitol to Maryland Ave. Turn left on Maryland Ave and go two blocks to Stanton Square, and then turn right onto Massachusetts Ave. From there, follow directions as from Union Station.
From I-95 / B-W Parkway and Baltimore: Follow I-95 South (merge with I-495 towards VA). Exit onto the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south towards D.C. or simply follow the Parkway south towards D.C. On the Parkway, follow signs towards I-295 and take the East Capitol Street exit.
PUBLIC TRANSIT
The Blue and Orange lines of Washington D.C.’s Metro service (WMATA) stop at RFK Stadium. Three Metro buses also stop within one block of the stadium – B2, D6, 96, and 97 – and the fare is $1.25.
